“Today I felt the kid in me I haven’t felt for as long as I can remember"
Seven-time F1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton wore his Tamiya RC love on his sleeve during the build up to the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix when he picked up a Tamiya Lunchbox and drove it in the paddock and Mercedes AMG garage.

Hamilton took to social media to exclaim, “Today I felt the kid in me I haven’t felt for as long as I can remember” while showing a Vanessa’s Lunchbox and Blitzer Beetle at his feet.  Further posts included photos of the F1 idol’s new car calling it “my new baby” in an unprecedented show of love for Tamiya and RC.

The driver who’s racing career started in radio control and included a famous visit to the Blue Peter Garden thirty years ago, has always been near to the sport and commented in 2009 that The Hornet was his first ever race car !

Lewis visited Tamiya’s retail emporium – Tamiya Pla Model Factory – in Central Tokyo and took delivery of his latest Tamiya RC car prior to the race weekend

Even F1 Champions can’t hide their delight when driving a Tamiya RC car !

Lewis has also recently contributed to a Sky F1 feature which airs 9 Oct 22, where he talks about the importance of radio control cars in getting children engaged in motorsport and engineering through his Mission 44 organization which looks to address racial equality and opportunity.

The film can be seen during Sky F1’s build up the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on 9/10/22.   The piece includes Andy Hyde of RC Vision who has been working with The Hobby Company on the Tamiya Junior-E Race Series which also aims to be an entry point to RC racing for children from all backgrounds.
