The Second World War began on the 1st of September 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland, leading to both the British and French declaring war on the Germans. It became a global conflict involving countries such as the United States, Russia, Italy, and Japan. The war officially ended on the 2nd of September 1945 with the final surrender of the Japanese, following on from Germany's surrender on the 8th of May earlier the same year.
