Vector Sport Just Miss Le Mans Podium
The Tamiya branded LMP2 finishes 5th in close race in challenging conditions.
Known as the toughest race in the world, the 101st running of Le Mans lived up to its reputation, as the sixty-two entries battled in changing conditions, including heavy rain and wind.

In LMP2, the Tamiya-branded Vector Sport Oreca was a competitive force in the famous twenty-four-hour race and led for a large part, with pilots Cullen, Pilet, and Richelmi producing some superb endurance driving as many suffered in the wet conditions well into the night.

Le Mans is a real team sport with engineers watching data of the car and conditions. Meanwhile, pit crew must be on constant standby. The cars pit every forty-five minutes, so there is not much time for rest throughout the long race. Drivers will tend to do between two and four stints, meaning they are in the car for between one and a half to three hours at a time.
As morning broke, Vector emerged leading the 24 Hours of Le Mans and was part of a leading group of six cars vying for victory. But in the closing couple of hours, others benefitted from out-of-sync fuel stops due to yellow flags, and with the number 10 car of Vector managing tyres and fuel, they found themselves chasing in 5th place.
As the flag was waved by French football legend and World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane at 4 pm Sunday, Vector came home in P5, just eight seconds off third place. It was a brilliant race for a team in just their third Le Mans.

The Hobby Company and Tamiya were immensely proud to be part of Vector Sport’s Le Mans campaign and wish them well for the rest of the season in The European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
