Vector Sport Cruel Penalty at Spa
British LMP2 team finishes 2nd in four-hour race but penalty after race takes away podium
Sunday 23rd August, Vector Sport produced its best result of the 2026 European Le Mans Series (ELMS), originally finishing second in the 4-Hours of Spa-Francorchamps before a cruel post-race penalty was applied.
The Tamiya branded Vector Sport Oreca 07, with drivers Ryan Cullen, Piertro Fittipaldi and Vlad Lomko, finished on the second step of the podium after securing second overall and just 3.5 seconds behind the race winner in LMP2. However, Pietro Fittipaldi had driven 1m15.791 below the minimum driving time. The no10 Oreca was given a post-race penalty of 1:50.791 sec ,which dropped the car to 17th overall and 9th in LMP2.
It was a strong weekend for the No.10 Oreca. Ryan Cullen started the race impressively from 7th on the grid and by the time the leading group went through the famous sweeping Eau Rouge corners, Cullen had made up to two places to P5. From there, Vector ran a well-structured race with Fittipaldi and Lomko playing their part in a great performance.
The team now hope to carry this performance to its home race next month at Silverstone (11-13 September). The Hobby Company and Tamiya are delighted to be associated with Vector Sport and wish them well for the rest of the season in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
