Full Size Scorcher Goes Home

The full size Sand Scorcher which was the star attraction on the Tamiya stand at this year’s Nurnberg Toy Fair in February, has arrived in its spiritual home at the Tamiya head quarters in Shizuoka Japan.

Built by specialist VW experts and Tamiya fans Bug Box to coincide with the re-release of the iconic Tamiya Baja buggy, the full size Sand Scorcher created quite a buzz at the famous toy fair.  Leading performance car magazine Evo even sent leading journalist and TV presenter Jonny Smith to write a six page feature on the impressive homage to one of Tamiya’s best loved R/C cars.

Rumours soon began to gather that Tamiya were to purchase the car and make it part of the car display in the reception area at Tamiya.   Those rumours were confirmed and the 1:1 scale Scorcher’s long journey from Germany began.  The sand Scorcher had to be specially packed in a container and had standard wheels fitted for ease of transportation on this delicate journey.

The full size Sand Scorcher will join the existing collection of full size F1 and road cars in the reception of Tamiya’s headquarters in Shizuoka.
