Tamiya Stars with Michael Caine

Tamiya Mini’s featured on One Show with movie Icon in Italian job opener

Last Friday the BBC’s popular The One Show featured a Hollywood actor and two Tamiya co-stars.

One of Britain’s best loved actors Sir Michael Caine was joined in the opening sequences of the flagship show by two R/C icons; a red & a blue Tamiya Mini Cooper driven by the presenters Chris Evans and Alex Jones.

As the show opened viewers saw the Tamiya Mini’s perform a number of Italian Job like stunts set to music including driving down a set of steps, through a tunnel, over a jump and even through shallow water just like the Mini’s did in the film.    The Mini’s were then seen entering the BBC reception with Evans and Jones happily driving the branded Tamiya cars whilst singing the famous Italian Job theme tune.   The piece ended with both Mini’s screeching to a sudden halt by crashing into the feet of Michael Caine, at which point he reminds the presenters: “I have made other bl**dy films you know!”

The One Show is one of the most popular shows on the BBC and regularly attracts audiences of over 2 million.

The show including the Tamiya Mini’s and Sir Michael Caine can be viewed via the BBC iPlayer : The One Show  1st October.

The two cars which were featured in the film were the XB ready to run version on the M-03 chassis (57742) and the R/C assembly kit version on the later M-05 chassis (58438).
